My day job is a typical Monday to Friday 8-5 office job. I work in a small office with a business casual dress code. I thought it’d be a great idea to show you a few outfits that would be appropriate yet stylish for work during the hot summer months.
1) Monday Blues
The first day of the work week is always a drag so why not play on the Monday blues. Creating an outfit based on one colour makes it easy to decide what to wear in the mornings. Picking out different shades of the same colour makes the outfit interesting. Skirts are great for the summer just make sure you keep your office dress code in mind. This skirt is great because although it is above the knee, the back comes down a bit longer and the material is loose and flowy. Perfect for those hot days.

Does anyone else’s office blast the A/C in the summers? It may be scalding hot outside but inside it gets chilly. I like to bring a blazer or sweater to wear while I’m at my desk. This boyfriend blazer polishes up the look well as it balances out the looser and thinner materials with tailoring.
2) Grey Tuesdays
Tuesdays are probably my least favourite day of the week. The week has already started and yet there’s still so many days left. Another no brainer outfit to wear for work is a nice top tucked into a pencil skirt. You’re able to show off your figure without showing off too much skin.

Since this outfit is so fitted a loose blazer is a good idea. Pick a blazer that is thinner and less structured. These are my favourite type of blazers because you still look professional but not so restricted when you’re typing away.
3) Sunny Wednesday

It’s hump day! For most the middle of the week can be depressing. Why not cheer things up with a little bit of colour. Some people don’t like to wear too bright or loud of colours in the workplace so a good way to balance it out is wearing a neutral base like black. Chiffon is a nice material to wear in summer as it is airy; however, can get a little sticky in the humidity. Be sure to wear a thin cotton tank underneath. As for dress pants, it can get a bit hot if you are wearing thick pants. Choose lighter fabrics such as polyester or silk if you can. These particular pants a silk blend.

For some, Thursday is the final day of the week where you have to follow office dress code. Why not end the formal week with an outfit that makes you feel really professional, but most importantly, still comfortable. Pairing a button down oxford shirt with a black skirt is a pretty standard office outfit. Roll up those sleeves and instead of wearing a traditional pencil skirt, wear a light silk skirt. I love this skirt because it’s so airy and the elastic band and ruching at the top allow for a little give in the belly.
5) Happy Friday

Yay! You made it! If your office participates in Casual Fridays, then this is the day to let loose a little. Just keep your dress code in mind and don’t take “casual” too literally. Some Fridays I like to wear jeans, but I’ll throw on a button down shirt or a blazer. Other Fridays I like to wear something fun like this purple heart shirt dress. I got this shirt dress years ago at H&M for $10. I thought the pattern was fun and I haven’t got sick of it yet. I actually get a lot of compliments whenever I wear this because it’s just so unexpected. If you’re going to wear a shirt dress to work, it’s always a good idea to wear something underneath. I wore a cotton pencil skirt underneath.
The most important things to remember:
- choose light and airy fabrics and materials
- bring a cardigan or a blazer to wear inside the A/C chilly office
- show off them legs! But keep it slightly above the knee or below
- don’t be too revealing, but don’t forget to show off that figure with flattering pieces
- keep it fun and colourful, it’s summer! Plus it brightens your mood and others around the office
